1. Who we are
This privacy policy is published by The Solar Power Co. Pty Ltd (ABN 54 613 942 322), a private Australian company providing residential solar, battery storage, and related installation services across Australia. References in this policy to "we", "us" or "our" mean The Solar Power Co. Pty Ltd.
This policy explains how we handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
2. What personal information we collect
The types of personal information we may collect include:
- Identity and contact details — your name, postcode, address, email address and phone number.
- Property information — details of your home, roof, current energy use, copies of your power bills, and other information relevant to designing a solar or battery system.
- Payment and finance information — if you choose finance through a third-party provider, that provider will collect and assess your financial information directly; we do not generally store credit card or bank details.
- Service interactions — records of our communications with you, including phone, SMS, email and on-site notes.
- Website analytics — limited information about your visit (such as device type, pages viewed and referring site) collected through standard web analytics tools.
3. How we collect your information
We collect personal information directly from you in most cases — for example, when you submit a quote form on our website, call us, send an SMS or email, or speak with a member of our team in person or on site.
From time to time we may also collect information from third parties, such as referral partners, lead-generation services you have opted in to, finance providers you have engaged, or publicly available sources.
4. Why we collect, hold and use your information
We collect and use personal information so that we can:
- Provide quotes for solar, battery and related products and services;
- Design and install your system, including compliance with grid-connection requirements;
- Submit rebate applications (such as STCs and state rebates) on your behalf;
- Communicate with you about your enquiry, installation, warranty, service or account;
- Improve our products, services and customer experience;
- Comply with our legal obligations, including under electrical safety, consumer protection and tax legislation; and
- Send you marketing communications about our services where we are permitted to do so (you can opt out at any time — see Section 9).
5. Who we disclose your information to
We may disclose your personal information to:
- Our installers and contractors who deliver and install your system;
- Equipment manufacturers and distributors for product registration and warranty purposes;
- Your energy retailer and distribution network as required for grid connection;
- Government and rebate bodies in connection with STC, federal and state rebate applications;
- Finance providers if you choose to use third-party finance (and only with your direction);
- Service providers who help us run our business — including IT, hosting, CRM, accounting, email and SMS providers — under appropriate confidentiality and data-handling arrangements; and
- Regulators, courts, or law enforcement where we are required or permitted by law.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
6. Overseas disclosure
Some of the service providers we use (for example, certain cloud-hosting, email and CRM platforms) may store data on servers located outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure those providers handle your information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
7. How we store and protect your information
We hold personal information in a mixture of secure electronic and physical systems. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect against unauthorised access, modification, disclosure or loss, including access controls, encryption in transit, and staff confidentiality obligations.
We retain personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes set out in this policy, or as required by law. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
8. Cookies and website analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences and understand how visitors use the site. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, although some parts of the site may not work as well.
9. Marketing communications
From time to time we may contact you with information about our products, services, promotions or news, by email or SMS, where you have provided consent or where we are permitted by law (such as where you are an existing customer).
You can opt out of marketing communications at any time by:
- Replying STOP to any marketing SMS;
- Clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email; or
- Emailing hello@solarpowerco.com.au.
See our separate SMS policy for more detail on SMS marketing.
10. Accessing or correcting your information
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may request access to the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. To do so, please contact us at the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time and will generally not charge a fee, except in unusual circumstances where we may charge a reasonable cost-based fee.
11. Complaints
